Saving Money at Meijer

There are 2 deals at Meijer that I failed to mention to you. Sorry about that. I thought I did, but when I was checking something on my Weekly Round-Up I realized they weren't there. Better late than never, I guess!

  • Jell-O- Jell-O Gelatin is on sale for $.50. Meijer MealBox has a coupon for $1.50 off 2 boxes of Jello. Why? I don't know, but I'll enjoy it while it's there. When you buy 4 boxes of Jello you get a Catalina for $2 off your next order. The catch is: Meijer MealBox Coupons specifically say 1 per transaction. So, you may or may not be able to do this deal. I have asked a manager at the store I shop at and he has given me the green light to use 2 coupons per transaction so I can do this deal. I don't mind getting paid $3.00 to buy 4 boxes of Jell-O.

  • Mrs. Smith's Whole Pies are on sale for $3.99 (That's 1/2 price). Meijer MealBox has a coupon for $1 off a whole pie. That makes it $2.99 for an entire pie. I don't think I can make one for that price!

I think those are all the great deals I missed. Please let me know if you find more!

Common Abbreviations for Couponers

If you are reading money saving blogs or forums and some things they are typing reads like Greek to you, they are probably using some of the common abbreviations for couponers. I thought I'd compile a list of the most widely used abbreviations and use it as a reference for the future. If you run across some I have missed, please e-mail me or leave a comment and I will add them to the list for future reference. Someone had to explain these to me once so I want to explain them to someone else. Just paying it forward, coupon style!

Saving Money at Target

I just found an awesome deal for you all! First, go to my coupon widget on the right side of my blog. You have to scroll down a while to find it. When you get there print off the B1G1 Free Glade Scented Oil Candle coupon. You should be able to print it 2 times. Go ahead, do it now, I'll wait.

Back so soon? Okay, you now need to check your coupons and see if you have any of the blinkie coupons for $2 off the Glade Scented Oil Candles. I found them at Kroger by the Glade stuff. The blinkie machine has been set up there forever giving out the same $2 coupon. If you don't have these coupons, it's okay, you'll still get them for free, you just won't make money.

Okay, now go to Target and find the Glade Scented Oil Candles in the special holiday scents. They are in a special package and at my Target they were on an end cap instead of with the other Glade stuff. Get 4 of the special scents and head to the front of the store to check out. You will now be making money (or at least getting some free stuff). Here's the math:

$10 (4 x $2.50) Glade Scented Oil Candles
-$5 2 B1G1 Free coupons
-$4 2 $2 coupons
-$5 Target Gift Card for buying $10 of Glade Holiday Scented products
=
-$4

That's right! You just made $4! As I said, even if you don't have the $2 coupons you still get them for FREE! I've heard through the grape vine that there are more B1G1 and $2 coupons inside the packages so you can just roll the deal until you get tired or until your Target runs out of the candles! Thanks to Mercedes for alerting me to the deal!

Saving Time Cooking

I've not had many recipes for you lately, so I'll try to make it up to you by posting 2 Crock Pot Recipes. With it being cold outside I thought a good Crock Pot soup would be nice and with the Holidays coming up I thought an easy Crock Pot recipe that everyone will love would come in handy.

Broccoli Cheese Soup

2 16oz packages of frozen chopped broccoli
2 cans condensed cheddar cheese soup
2 12 oz cans evaporated milk
1/4 C onion powder
1t salt
1t pepper
1/2 C (1 stick) margarine
2 C Cheddar Cheese

Put all ingredients except the margarine and Cheddar Cheese into the crock pot and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 4-6 hours. 30 minutes before serving add the margarine and Cheddar Cheese. Stir well. Serve with crusty bread.

Okay, this is soooo not a healthy recipe, but it is really good and not that expensive to make if you get the ingredients on sale. I use cheap chopped broccoli because the pieces seem to be smaller which works great in a soup. I used sharp cheese for the 1st time today and that worked just as well as mild, so you can pick which one you use. The base recipe for this came from 101Things to Do With A Slow Cooker. I added the margarine and cheese because I thought it was a little bland and needed a punch. So, try it before you add them and see if you like it that way, if you think it needs the extra punch, add the extra ingredients. I get my crusty bread from the day old bakery shelf. This time I found Italian and Sour Dough for $.99. Yummy.

Cherries Jubilee for the Crock Pot

2 Cans cherry pie filling
1 box white or yellow cake mix
1/2 C (1 stick) melted Margarine or Butter

Put cherries in crock pot. Sprinkle cake mix evenly over cherries. Spread melted margarine or butter over the cake mix as evenly as possible. Cook on low heat for 4 hours or high heat for 2 hours.

Okay, I have no clue where I got this recipe from, but it is delicious! My friends ask me to bring this to get-togethers. If you don't want to use the crock pot, you can even make this in the oven:

Cherries Jubilee in the Oven

2 Cans cherry pie filling
1 box white or yellow cake mix
1/2 C plus 2 T melted Margarine or Butter

Put cherries in a 9x13 pan. Sprinkle cake mix evenly over cherries. Spread melted margarine or butter over the cake mix as evenly as possible. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until cherries are bubbly and cake mix is a golden color.

The extra 2 T of margarine or butter really helps when making this in the oven. I guess because it's not covered more moisture leaves and the cake part gets kinda dry or the extra liquid helps that.

Serve with ice cream or whipped cream if you want. I personally prefer it straight up. Yummy.

Saving Money at Kmart

I made it to Kmart for Super Double Week on Monday and I haven't shared everything I bought yet. Everything you see here I bought for under $13. AND I got a $3 Catalina to use on my next order, in essence, all of this was only $10! Pictured is:
  • 6 bags of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups
  • 2 bags of Skittles
  • 2 bags of M&Ms
  • 2 bags of MilkyWays
  • 2 bags of Twix
  • 3 Gillette Shampoos
  • 2 Dove Conditioners
  • 2 Dove Shampoos
  • 3 Buddies Soaps
  • 4 cans Cream of Chicken Soup
  • 2 bottles of Visine
  • 4 Glade Candle holders
  • 4 bottles of SoBe
  • 2 Johnson & Johnson Gauze
  • 1 Johnson & Johnson Tape

The total before coupons was in the $130 range. I think I'm totally ready to start my next donation box AND I'm completely set for Halloween!

Saving Money at Meijer

Okay, I recently posted about the grape vine letting me know about an awesome deal on Kellogg's Mini Wheats. Well, I just got back from Meijer and let me tell you that it really works! I just purchased 4 boxes of Kellogg's Mini Wheats for $1! BUT there are some details that I was previously unaware of that I need to share with you.

This sale and the extra money off is only good on the 21ish oz boxes (I think one was actually 20.5 oz) so the 16oz boxes are not included. I don't know if this is all Meijer's or just at mine, but I only found Strawberry Mini Wheats and Frosted Mini Wheats in this size restriction. I used 2 computers to print my coupons so I had 4 coupons that I used on Strawberry (those are Drew's favorite). As I scanned the 4th box (I love self checkout! Much less drama over using coupons.) the computer automatically took $.50 off each box, I used my 4 $1 coupons and a $3 Catalina printed out with my receipt.

Here's the math break down again:

4 Boxes of Mini Wheats $10
- $4 from the 4 coupons your printed from my site
- $2 automatically deducted from your total
- $3 Catalina that is good on your next order
= $1 for 4 boxes of Mini Wheats!

Happy Savings!

Saving Money with My Site

I was checking to see what coupons were in my coupons.com widget and guess what I found?! A B1G1 Free on Glade Scented Oil Candle Warmer! You need to run to my coupon widget on the right side of my site to print this out! You should be able to print 2 per computer. Go! Do it now before they are all gone then you can come back and I'll tell you about the deal you can use them on.

Back? Okay, now take those coupons and go to Kroger or Meijer and use them to buy 4 Glade Scented Oil Warmers. You will pay $9.38 plus tax out of pocket (OOP) BUT you will get $16 in Catalinas to use on your next order! You just made $6 just by reading my site! OR to make more bang for your buck, divide it up into 2 orders. Spend $4.69 plus tax then turn around and use one of the $4 Catalinas to help pay for your next order, saving you even more money. Aren't I good to you?

Now, I personally will be using these coupons at Kroger, let me tell you why. Meijer has a line on their Catalinas that says "1 per transaction." Which means that technically you can only use 1. Sometimes a cashier will let you use more, but you're really not supposed to. Kroger does not have this line on their Catalinas. You can use as many as you want in an order. I personally prefer to buy things that produce Catalinas at Kroger for this reason.

Saving Money at Meijer

Okay, I mentioned Mini Wheats in my Weekly Round-Up, but little did I know what a great deal it actually was! I heard through the grape vine that if you buy 4 boxes of Mini Wheats this is what will happen:

4 Boxes of Mini Wheats $10
- $4 from the 4 coupons your printed from my site
- $2 automatically deducted from your total
- $3 Catalina that is good on your next order
= $1 for 4 boxes of Mini Wheats! That's $.25 each! Now, that's a good deal!

As I said, I heard this through the grape vine and I actually haven't tried it out myself, but I'm sure going to give it a try as soon as my husband gets home from work! My son LOVES this cereal! He calls it "Gamaw's Cereal" because it's the kind my mom eats!

Green Dot items are 50% off! If that sounded like a foreign language to you, let me explain. All of the items in the $1 Spot area are coded with a colored dot next to the bar code. Right now the Green Dots area 50% off. My Target had a TON of stuff! I got knit hats, refrigerator notepads(with the magnets on the back), sets of sticky notes, lip balm and wicker baskets all for $.50 each. I'm totally excited!

They also had Rayovac Batteries in the $1 Spot. I had a few coupons in my ever-present binder for $1/1 so I got FREE batteries!

Saving Memories with Mommy Dollars

Yesterday, while my 3 year old son was at preschool, I was filing new coupons in my binder and taking out all the expired coupons. I put all of the expired coupons in a pile on the floor and didn't have time to clean them up before he got home. When he got home he was highly concerned that "Mommy Dollars" were all over the floor! He ran to the kitchen to get baggies to put "Mommy Dollars" in! It was the most adorable thing ever! I just had to share it with you!

Saving Memories: I've Been Tagged!

Okay, Becky, over at Nickels-N-Dimes Tagged me, now I have to find people to tag, I sooo don't know that many bloggers!

  1. Emma Louise at Coupon Savvy- she's the one who made my cool Saving Sherry avatar!
  2. Katie at Cincinnati Cents- I don't know her ( Hi Katie! It's nice to meet you!) but I hear she's a fellow CincyMOM.
  3. Lori at Samen Lori's Life- she helped me out with some info about the K-Mart and Old Navy deals.
  4. Andrea at Mommy Snacks- fellow CincyMOM and actually lives near me!

7 Random and or weird facts about me. . .

  1. I went to Marshall University, you know the one with the movie, and while there I met future NFL football players! I talked several times with Chad Pennington and I literally ran into Randy Moss on campus one day. I'm pretty sure my nose was in his belly button! He's REALLY tall!
  2. While in high school I told my parents to hit me if I ever thought about dating anyone like Rob; then I married him.
  3. My degree says I'm a music teacher.
  4. My grandfather's uncle was a mechanic for the Wright Brothers (I think it was his uncle, could have been cousin or something else.)
  5. I left my coupon binders at K-Mart during the last Super Double sale and I almost had a heart attack! My husband was worried I would wreck on my way back to get them!
  6. I have a pool in my back yard, but I very rarely use it. If it weren't for my husband swimming in it several times a week it would just sit empty. (Except for the water, that would probably still be there. . . )
  7. Here is a list of the MAJOR moves I've made in my life, starting with where I was born: Indiana, North Carolina, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, West Virginia, Ohio, Ohio.
Okay, now off to tell everyone they've been tagged!

Saving Sherry's Message to All

Hello All! Just wanted to let you know that the round-up is going to be a little late this week. My parents were in town for the end of the week, I switched all of the boys clothes from summer to winter, I was at 2 parties today, my in-laws are in town now and my children's choir at church is doing 2 performances tomorrow. Whew. I'm tired after just typing all of that.

So, please bear with me as I get up my posts. If you are doing CVS I know there are some Sunday and Monday only deals so you will want to go pick them up ASAP because they are free and Halloween related so they will sell out fast. CVS (at least my CVS) doesn't give rain checks for Sunday and Monday only sales, so get there early.

Please feel free to check any of the blogs I follow for deals this week (down the left side of my blog). They are all great women and will steer you in the right direction. I will try to get my deals up by Monday sometime, but Drew doesn't have school on Monday, so we will see if I actually have time or not.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! As always, Happy Savings!

Saving Money at Meijer

Rumor has it (and rumor is usually pretty accurate) that there is a Catalina deal going on at Meijer on Kellogg's Frosted Mini Wheats. Buy 2, get a $1 Catalina. Buy 3, get a $3 Catalina. Here is the great deal for some of those $1 coupons you printed off my site. (If you haven't printed them yet, see my post here for the details.)

You can print off more $1 coupons here. (Rumor has it that some people are printing up to 6 per computer!)

Now, I wish these were part of the 2/$4 sale, but alas they are not. The Catalina deal runs through November 2. So, you can use the coupons now or you can hold onto them and wait for a sale on Frosted Mini Wheats.

BUT make sure you print the coupons NOW!! As I said in my other post, these are really good coupons and they might disappear soon so make sure you get yours!

Saving Time Cooking

I have another Crock Pot Recipe for you today. This one I came up with myself using ideas from several friends. I love the crock pot.

Sherry's Pork Roast

1 Pork Roast
1 Can Chicken Broth
1 Package Dry Onion Soup Mix
1-2 T Garlic Powder

Put everything in the Crock Pot and cook on low for 6-8 hours.

You can even treat this like a Pot Roast and add carrots and potatoes. This is an easy meal that you can throw into the crock pot in 5 minutes and be off to your busy life and still have a home cooked meal for dinner. I LOVE that. You can even throw the roast in frozen if you don't have time to thaw it, just make sure you let it cook for the higher end of the time window then.

If you live anywhere NEAR a Rite Aid, run, don't walk, run there as fast as you can! They are having an AMAZING week with their Single Check Rebates! There are calling it the "Feeling Better for Free Week." Check out the ad here. Here is a list of the free stuff:

Thanks to Tara for typing the list and alerting me to the deals! My Rite Aid was already out of some items, so I didn't get everything. There are 30 Freebies this week, totaling $144.20. There are links provided for Internet Printables, but some Rite Aid's take them and some don't, it's up to the store manager. My store takes them, so I not only will get a check back for everything I bought, my coupons paid for my tax plus a little overage! Best of all, now that we are completely stocked with cold supplies, my family will probably never get sick again! That's the way it works at my house!

Saving Sanity with Working Appliances

I love the refrigerator repair man! Our fridge/freezer went out on Monday and we finally got someone to fix it today. I am so glad! We are truly blessed and spoiled with our modern convinces.

On Monday evening after we decided that it was not going to get any cooler, we loaded a plastic tub with everything we wouldn't be able to save like milk, yogurt, refrigerated biscuits and things of that nature, to give to our neighbors before it went bad. The very first neighbor I spotted and offered things to told me she had a dorm-size refrigerator in her garage she used for pop and water and offered to loan it to us! God will provide! We were able to save the majority of the food by sticking most everything we could in the garage freezer and everything else we needed in the little fridge. We lost a few things like ice cream, popsicles and condiments but that is much better than meat and chicken! We were able to have milk and yogurt all week long. My husband was grateful for the milk and my son for the yogurt.

It was a test of my creativity to find things to cook this week. You would be surprised how many things you cook that need stuff from the fridge. And then there was the need to store leftovers. We had room in the fridge for 1, maybe 2, small containers of leftovers at a time. This proved to be a problem because I usually make plenty of extras for lunches for my husband and myself. I had to try to scale down my recipes and force my husband to eat extra at dinner. (He HATED that part! :) )

I am so grateful that we now have a working refrigerator and freezer in the house. I no longer have to walk to the garage to get milk (it was safer out there- Drew likes to "cook" when he can get in the fridge). In a way, it's sad that I was upset I had to walk an extra 20 feet to get milk, but I am very grateful I no longer have the need.

Saving Money with Glade

Okay, remember in my Weekly Round-Up I said I wasn't feeling the love from Kroger and Meijer? I TOTALLY changed my mind! They are AWESOME! Well, Kroger and Meijer in conjunction with Glade. But, use the B1G1 Free coupon from the 9/28 SmartSource and you pay $4.49 and get $8 to use on your next order! That's an awesome deal!

This program is valid at many stores, it has been reported to be working at Kroger, Meijer, Safeway, K-Mart, Giant Eagle, Pic-N-Save and Stop & Shop. (Thanks for the list Crystal!)

Okay, so other than the Walgreen's post I made yesterday I have been out of commission, so now I'm playing catch-up. Thank you to everyone who sent me e-mails about the new deals, I really appreciate it! Some of them I would never know about if you hadn't sent them to me!

Saving Time Cooking

Okay, I've never tried this recipe before, but it looks delicious and my friend Sarah gave it to me and I trust her taste buds, I mean judgement, no I think I actually meant taste buds.

Sarah's Beef Stuff
(Okay, I named it that, but she didn't give it a name)

2 lbs chuck roast cut into 1" pieces (Sarah buys pre-cut stew meat)
1 envelope dry onion soup mix
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can 7-Up (Sarah uses Sierra Mist)

Put meat in the bottom of a crock pot. Do not season. Pour mushroom soup over meat. Sprinkle with soup mix on top. Add 7-Up. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours. Serve over rice or egg noodles. (Sarah likes it with mashed potatoes.)

Tell me what you think about it! I'm going to have to try it out this week.
